Solace Sofas

Project Overview

Solace Sofas is an online furniture brand specializing in custom-built sofas and chairs. The goal was to build a website that felt as premium as the furniture itself — visually showcasing the range of pieces in a way that lets each product speak for itself, while giving the client a dead-simple way to manage content.

The key design decision was to let the furniture do the talking: clean layouts, generous whitespace, and high-quality imagery arranged to highlight each sofa and chair style distinctly.

For content management, we used a JSON-based approach — all product data lives in a single JSON file. When the client wants to add a new piece, change a description, or update an image, they edit the JSON directly. No backend, no CMS overhead.

Key Features

  • Product Showcase: Each sofa and chair is presented with dedicated sections — style, materials, dimensions — designed to replicate the experience of browsing in a showroom.
  • JSON-Based Content Management: All product listings, descriptions, and images are driven by a JSON file. The client can update or add products entirely on their own without developer involvement.
  • Modern, Responsive UI: Built with React and Tailwind CSS for a clean, consistent layout that works across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Optimized Imagery: Furniture relies on visuals — images are lazy-loaded and responsive to keep the site fast without compromising quality.

Technologies Used

  • Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS
  • Content: JSON-based data management

Challenges & Solutions

  • Balancing Simplicity and Flexibility: Without a backend, ensuring JSON-driven updates were easy for the client while maintaining data integrity required clear structure and good documentation.
  • Responsive Product Grids: Furniture items vary in proportion and size — making product cards look balanced across all screen sizes required careful responsive testing with Tailwind's utility classes.
  • Performance with Large Images: Furniture photography is image-heavy. Lazy loading and responsive image sizing kept load times acceptable without sacrificing visual quality.
  • Warm, Modern Aesthetic: Choosing the right palette, typography, and spacing to reflect comfort and craftsmanship required several design iterations before landing on the right feel.

Outcome

The website gives Solace Sofas a polished digital presence that reflects the quality of their products. The JSON content system hands the client full control over their catalogue — a practical, low-friction solution that fits a small furniture brand perfectly.
